AAP Dissolution Of Goa Unit: The party, which failed to win a single seat in Goa in 2017, entered the 2022 assembly elections with a win.
Aam Aadmi Party: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday dissolved the executive committee of its Goa unit, barring the post of state president. The party’s move is aimed at reforming and restructuring the party’s organizational structure in the coastal state ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In a press release on Twitter, the party said, “The party dissolves the present organization in the state of Goa with immediate effect. Amit Palekar will continue to serve as the state president. The new organizational structure will be announced soon.
AAP’s Goa unit president Amit Palekar said the move was aimed at reforming the party’s state unit. Palekar said that AAP’s National General Secretary Dr. Sandeep Pathak has issued orders to dissolve the working committee. However, he remains in his post.
Senior leaders of AAP Goa visited Delhi
State leaders of the Arvind Kejriwal-led party had recently visited Delhi. During this, Kejriwal had a discussion with senior leaders of the state party. A few days later, the Aam Aadmi Party disbanded its Goa unit. The party has said it will contest both the seats in the coastal state in the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year.
AAP had won two seats in 2022
The party, which failed to win a single seat in Goa in 2017, entered the 2022 assembly elections with a win. The party won two seats in South Goa – Velim and Benaulim. In Benaulim, AAP candidate Venji Vigas defeated former chief minister Churchill Alemao, who contested on a Trinamool Congress (TMC) ticket. In Velim, AAP’s Cruz Silva defeated Congress’ Savio de Silva.
Amit Palekar, president of the Goa unit, told The Indian Express, “All units have been disbanded. The party will be reformed again. We want to strengthen the party’s presence at the grassroots level and focus on party expansion. We want seriousness in the party. Many leaders were appointed after the last election. We do not want any hilahwali, so the party will be restructured and the new unit will be announced soon.
