Five MLAs were suspended on Friday for obstructing the proceedings of the Tripura Assembly, leading to a walkout by opposition parties. Assembly Speaker Vishwabandhu Sen suspended three MLAs from Communist Party of India-Marxist (Marxist) Nayan Sarkar, Congress’s Sudip Roy Burman and Tipra Motha for the day for disrupting the House.

The suspended MLAs from Tipra Motha include Briswaketu Debbarma, Nandita Reang and Ranjit Debbarma. Opposition members boycotted the House in protest against the Speaker’s decision.

Congress MLAs were purifying Tripura Assembly

Uproar took place when Congress MLA Sudeep Barman reached the House carrying Gangajal on the first day of the first budget session of the 13th Assembly. He started sprinkling Gangajal in the assembly at every place where he went. He said that BJP MLA Jadhav Lal Nath had seen a porn film in the assembly. But even after that the speaker did not take any action. That’s why there is a need to purify the house with the water of the Ganges.

After his move, there was an uproar in the assembly. After this, Animesh Debbarma (Leader of Opposition) of TIPRA Motha stood up and asked the speaker whether he would allow an adjournment motion against the BJP MLA. After the Speaker’s refusal, there was an uproar in the House. During that time many MLAs were raising their voice from their seats. Speaker Vishwabandhu Sen asked the MLAs to go and sit on their seats. But the MLA did not agree.
