Ameesha Patel has revealed that after enjoying success in ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ and ‘Gadar’, people were ‘snatching films from under her nose’ without her knowledge.
Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel made her Bollywood debut in the year 2000 with Rakesh Roshan’s mega hit film ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ opposite Hrithik Roshan. The actress pointed out how her contemporaries Kareena Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Esha Deol and others were from “film families”.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha revealed that she was called a “snob” because she shied away from talking bad about others on the sets. He said, “When I entered the film industry, only film actors’ kids or makers’ kids came with me, including Kareena Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Tusshar Kapoor, Esha Deol, Fardeen Khan.” He was the third generation of a film family. I was an outsider. I am someone who didn’t chatter on the set, I used to read books, I didn’t gossip, so I was called dumb anyway because I chose to read.”
Ameesha said that her contemporaries could not handle her success after Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000), Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) and Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu film Badri (2000).
Ameesha said, “Then to see one success after another, to see Hrithik and me becoming the heartthrob of the country overnight and then Gadar Ka Aana and then Badri Ka Aana… be it Telugu, Tamil or English cinema. God was kind, he knew I didn’t have a godfather so he gave me successful films but my contemporaries couldn’t handle it. There was a lot of jealousy, snatching films from under the nose. I was cut off from films a lot, which I didn’t realize at the time that I had signed my films, blocked my dates, but suddenly I’m not on that set and a few months later someone else is. “
After this, Ameesha told that often she was not informed that another actor was being replaced in her place.
The actress further added, “That was not the era of social media and information did not go out so fast. We had these movie guides and trade guides that would come into the office that we would read and find out what was going on. You didn’t really know, like today you know who is on which set[because]everything is posted on Instagram and Twitter. But then it was just a matter of just acting in good faith.”
Amisha will be seen opposite Sunny Deol in Gadar 2. The film will be released in theaters on 11 August.
