Amrit Pal Singh: Punjab’s radical preacher and chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’ Amritpal Singh was arrested by the police on Saturday. Amritpal Singh’s arrest came days after Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Home Minister Amit Shah. Singh’s supporters call him ‘Bhindranwale 2.0’. He calls himself a supporter of Bhindranwale. Ever since the incident at Ajnala police station on 23rd February, there was a demand for action against Amritpal Singh. Sources said the Center sent additional forces to Punjab ahead of his arrest. The plan was to arrest the radical preacher after the G20 meeting in the state got over yesterday. Within 24 hours the police caught Amritpal Singh.
Amritpal is also being called Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale 2.0 in the state for the past few days. The reason is that like him, he is also demanding a separate country for Sikhs, Khalistan. In 1980, Bhindranwale also raised the above demand for the Sikhs, which created panic across the state. Singh dons a heavy turban like Bhindranwale and delivers fiery speeches that excite the youth.
Apart from giving provocative speeches, Amritpal also has political understanding. The proof of this is found in the place chosen for his programme. On September 29 last year, ‘Waris De Punjab’ On the first anniversary, a big program was organized in Rode village of Moga district. During this program, Amritpal was entrusted with the responsibility of the organization. The choice of site is believed to have been strategic as Rode was Bhindranwale’s native village. He also wears a blue turban like him and keeps a small saber with him.
Amritpal became active after the death of Deep Sidhu
The ‘Waris de Punjab’ organization was formed by actor Deep Sidhu, but after his death in a road accident on February 15, 2022, Amritpal Singh, who returned from Dubai a few months ago, took over the responsibility of the organization. He created the organization’s website and started connecting people to it.
Married an NRI girl from Britain on February 10
Amritpal Singh claims to be a follower of terrorist Bhindranwale. Amritpal is 30 years old and is married. On February 10 this year, he married Kirandeep, a UK-based NRI girl, during a ceremony in his native village. Kirandeep is originally from Kularan village in Jalandhar, but some time back her family had settled in England.
Amritpal Singh is educated till 12th
Amritpal is a native of Jallupur village of Punjab. He has studied up to 12th standard from the village school itself. In the year 2012, he moved to Dubai. There he did the business of transport. Most of his relatives live in Dubai only. His name also came up in the murder case of Shiv Sena leader of Punjab, Sudhir Suri. The family members of the victim had appealed to the police to include Amritpal’s name in the whole case. While taking action, the police had put him under house arrest in Singawala village.
