Any direct attack on the Indian mission is completely unacceptable.
The British government on Thursday announced that any direct attack on the Indian High Commission in London is “totally unacceptable”.
This statement of the British government has come to the fore amid anti-India propaganda by Khalistani extremists on social media channels. UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverley announced on Twitter that the safety of India’s diplomatic mission staff in the country is of paramount importance.
With Indian diplomatic missions in the US, Australia and Canada being targeted and some threatening posters surfacing online with photographs of Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami and Consul General of India in Birmingham Dr Shashank Vikram, Cleverly said that the Indian High Commission in London Any direct attack is completely unacceptable.
He said that we have made it clear to Vikram Doraiswami and the Government of India that the safety of the employees in the High Commission is of paramount importance. The Metropolitan Police has tightened security at India House in central London since the High Commission building was targeted by Khalistani extremists in March. Cleverly said the British government would work with the police to review the security of the Indian High Commission, and make any necessary changes to ensure the safety of its staff.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Monday that the ‘extremist, extremist’ Khalistani thinking is not good for India or its allies like America, Britain, Canada, Australia. The Foreign Minister had said that we have urged our allies like Canada, Britain, America, Australia, where Khalistani activities have taken place, not to pay attention to Khalistanis, because their (Khalistanis’) extremist, extremist thinking is neither ours nor ours. Neither good for them nor good for our relations with them (those countries).
Canada always takes serious action against terrorism: PM Trudeau
Ottawa, Language : Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Thursday that his country has always taken “serious action” against terrorism and will continue to do so. He said it was ‘wrong’ to believe that his government was soft towards Khalistan sympathizers and terrorists in the country.
His remarks came days after India on Monday summoned the Canadian ambassador in New Delhi and issued a ‘demarche’ (letter of objection) over the growing activities of pro-Khalistan elements in Canada. His remarks come two days ahead of a proposed pro-Khalistan rally outside the Indian High Commission in Ottawa on July 8.
Trudeau, in response to a question during a press conference, said they were wrong. Canada has always taken violence and threats of violence extremely seriously. We have always taken serious action against terrorism and we always will. He was asked about a tableau depicting the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the Greater Toronto Area last month.
On the occasion of the 39th anniversary of ‘Operation Blue Star’, pro-Khalistan supporters took out a tableau which showed the late former prime minister with blood on his clothes. Along with this, a poster was also put up on which it was written that revenge for the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib. Recently, there has been outrage across India after pro-Khalistan posters depicting some senior Indian diplomats as ‘murderers’ surfaced.
Trudeau said that our country is very diverse and we have freedom of expression, but we will always make sure that we can combat violence and extremism in all its forms. India is also learned to have asked the Canadian authorities to take appropriate steps in view of the proposed protest by pro-Khalistan groups outside the Indian mission in Canada on July 8.
