The England Cricket Board (ECB) said on Tuesday 4 July 2023 that its wicket-keeper batsman Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the remaining Ashes series. Ollie Pope dislocated his shoulder during the second Test of the Ashes series against Australia at Lord’s. Ollie Pope injured his right shoulder while fielding during the Second Test at Lord’s.
A small mistake increased the difficulties of Oli Pope
The seriousness of Ollie Pope’s injury became known after scan reports arrived in London on Monday. Now his surgery will be done. He will not be able to play in the remaining matches. He will work closely with the England and Surrey medical teams in relation to his rehabilitation. Ollie Pope’s injury was further aggravated when the umpires said he would have to take the field again as he had batted in England’s first innings. England were erroneously told that they were not allowed to field a substitute fielder in the second innings.
Ollie Pope, 25, had a dislocated left shoulder in 2019 and 2020 as well. Born on 2 January 1998 in Chelsea, Middlesex, Ollie Pope has played 38 Test matches so far. In this he has scored 2136 runs at an average of 34.45. This includes his 4 centuries and 11 half-centuries. His highest score is 205 runs. However, Ollie Pope has so far scored 6403 first class, 767 List A and 1055 T20 runs.
Ollie Pope will not have any replacement
In a statement issued by the ECB, it has been said that no one will be called in place of Ollie Pope for the third Ashes Test starting at Headingley from Thursday 6 July 2023. The Australian cricket team is currently leading the Ashes series 2023 by 2-0. Ollie Pope scored 31, 14, 42 and 3 runs in 4 innings of two Tests in Ashes series 2023 respectively.
Ollie Pope had a disappointing performance in the last Ashes
This was Ollie Pope’s second Ashes series. Earlier, he had participated in 3 Test matches of the Ashes series in 2021-22. His performance in that was disappointing. He played innings of 35 and 4 in the first Test match of that series, 5 and 4 in the second Test match and 14 and 5 runs in the third Test match.
