Aman Sehrawat Won Gold Medal Asian Wrestling Championships: Aman Sehrawat continued his impressive run at the senior level to win India’s first gold medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships by defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Samanbekov in the 57kg category in Astana on Thursday. Aman Sehrawat defeated Samanbekov 9-4 in the final.
Aman Sehrawat, who trains at Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium, beat Japan’s Rikuto Arai 7-1 in the quarter-finals before defeating China’s Wanhao Zhu 7-4 in the semi-finals. Aman Sehrawat, who won the Under-23 World Championship last year, secured the second podium position in the 2023 season. He had also won a bronze medal at the Zagreb Open in February.
Apart from Aman Sehrawat, two other Indian wrestlers were also successful in making it to the bronze medal match on Thursday (April 13, 2023). Deepak Kukna (79kg) and Deepak Nehra (97kg) will play in the bronze medal bout after losing their semi-final bouts.
Anuj Kumar (65kg) and Mulayam Yadav (70kg) failed to make it to the medal rounds. India has so far won 12 medals in the competition. Greco-Roman wrestlers won four medals, while women wrestlers won seven.
