Avinash Sable’s great performance in Silesia Diamond League, even after being in sixth place, got the ticket to Paris
India’s Avinash Sable won the historic silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Fans have high hopes from him in the Paris Olympics.
Avinash Sable finished sixth in the 3000m steeplechase at the Silesia Diamond League meet on Sunday. This was the third Diamond League meet for the Commonwealth Games silver medalist this season. Sable qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics despite finishing sixth. National champion Sable clocked 8:11:63, slightly better than her national record time of 8:11.20.
Sable qualifies for Paris Olympics
Sable beat the Paris Olympics qualifying mark of 8:15 seconds by a huge margin to seal her berth for next year’s Games. Sable had created history by winning the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year. He was the first Indian to do so. With this victory, he also ended Kenya’s supremacy in this event for three decades.
These athletes qualified for Paris Olympics
Apart from Sable, Akshdeep Singh, Vikas Singh and Paramjit Singh Bisht in the men’s 20 km race walk and Priyanka Goswami in the women’s event have also confirmed their tickets for the Paris Olympics. These players got this ticket in the Asian Athletics Championship. India finished third in the competition with 27 medals. India won a total of 27 medals, including six gold, 12 silver and nine bronze, and equaled its record for the most medals in the continental competition. India had won the same number of medals in the 2017 competition at home in Bhubaneswar. This time though the number of gold medals is less.
Long jump athlete Murali Sreeshankar has also qualified for these games. Sable has already qualified for the World Championships (August 19-27) to be held in Budapest, Hungary. At the same time, the name of Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra is also included in the list of these players.
