Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has inserted a clause in his contract for the Lanka Premier League that he will not be associated with any betting company.
Pakistan Cricket Team captain Babar Azam has recently returned home after performing Haj. He had gone to perform Haj along with his mother and other companions. Now news is coming that Babar Azam has refused to promote and wear the jersey (dress) with the logo of the betting company during the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL).
It is noteworthy that many franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are sponsored by betting companies. Babar Azam was also a part of Peshawar Zalmi in Pakistan Super League 2023 and wore jerseys with this logo during PSL matches.
A source close to Babar Azam told that this Pakistani player during the signing of this year’s LPL contract has inserted a clause that he will not join any betting company.
The source said, “Most of the Pakistani players have been telling the franchise owners and league organizers that they do not want to wear the logo of any betting company and do not want to promote them.”
earlier senior players Mohammed Rizwan refused to wear a shirt with the logo of a betting company in the Pakistan Super League. Some Pakistani players have taken a stand against the advertisements of betting companies. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board and some of its franchises were sponsored by betting companies in the previous season and the players wore the logos of such companies on their jerseys.
One of the main sponsors of the PCB during the PSL and a recent home series was a betting website which resorted to indirect advertising for its promotion. However, according to the formula Babar Azam has ‘categorically ruled out’ own LPL franchise Colombo Strikers. Babar Azam will lead the Colombo Strikers in the LPL to be held from July 30 to August 22.
