Roger Binny & Mayanti Langer Conflict of Interest case: BCCI’s Ethics Officer said in his decision that Mayanti Langer is involved in the production, marketing, sales, business or management of Star Sports. She has been hosting live broadcasts and panels for Star Sports.

BCCI News: The conflict of interest case against Roger Binny, President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been dismissed. In an 11-page judgement, BCCI’s Ethics Officer Justice Vineet Sarin dismissed the complaint against the BCCI President and also gave a stern warning to the complainant Sanjeev Gupta. The complaint was related to Roger Binny’s daughter-in-law Mayanti Langar’s association with BCCI broadcaster Star Sports.

According to Cricbuzz, Justice Saran said in his decision, “I do not see any merit in the complaint of Sanjeev Gupta. The complainant has failed to establish a case of conflict of interest, hence Rule 38(2) will not apply in the present case. The complainant has not stated in his complaint that Mayanti Langar is involved in the production, marketing, sales, business or management of Star Sports. She is hosting live broadcasts and panels for Star Sports.

Mayanti Langer is not an employee of Star Sports

Justice Saran further said, “Media rights of BCCI and IPL were given to Star Sports on 05.04.2018 and 27.06.2022 respectively. There is no dispute about this either. It cannot be said that Roger Binny, as chairman, influenced the award of media rights to Star Sports. Mayanti Langar is not an employee of Star Sports and is working on contract with Star Sports only as an anchor. Hence, there is no conflict of interest or violation of Rule (38)(1)(i).”

What did Justice Saran say about the complainant?

Regarding the complainant Sanjeev Gupta, Justice Saran said, “In complaint case 4/2020, my earlier Ethics Officer had directed the complainant on 15.08.2022 and 16.01.2021 not to put the complaint and other information in the public domain. Failure to do so will be viewed seriously, including not considering the complaint.
