A report by Business Insider has revealed that telecom companies have made tariffs expensive in the country. The report said, “All the gains made after the last tariff hike have almost been wiped out and there is constant pressure on them to increase revenue and profits. Due to this, the telecom companies have once again needed to increase the tariff.
Constant pressure on revenue
The reason for high tariff has also been disclosed in this report. Continued pressure on revenue, moderate profits and margin in ARPU rates could be one of the reasons for this expected tariff hike. According to the report, the ARPU rate of Reliance Jio has increased by 0.8 percent and the ARPU rate of Airtel and Vodafone has increased by 1 percent.
It has also been mentioned in this report that Airtel has started testing the tariff hike by discontinuing the Rs 99 prepaid plan in some telecom circles. In this plan, the company offers calls and 200MB data at 2.5 paise per minute. After this, this plan was re-launched at a cost of 57 per cent. Now in this plan, unlimited calls and 1 GB data are being offered for Rs 155.
Big expenditure on providing 5G services
It is worth noting that recently Union Minister Devsingh Chauhan had said that currently telecom operators are installing an average of 2500 base stations every week to provide 5G services to their customers in the country. The minister had told the Rajya Sabha that till November 26, 20,980 mobile base stations have been installed in the country. Of these, Reliance Jio and Airtel have installed 17,687 and 3,293 base stations, respectively. Vodafone Idea can also increase the price of tariffs after its competitors.
