This incident is from Pachmah village of Gaya district. Gaya’s Imamganj DSP Manoj Ram said that a woman was set ablaze by the villagers on suspicion of practicing witchcraft in Pachmah village, in which she died. He told that villagers along with a tantrik entered her house and the woman was beaten to death by the mob.
In Pachmah village of Magra police station area, a mob burnt a woman in her own house accusing her of being a witch. Earlier, the mob thrashed the woman to death with sticks. Then locked in the house, sprinkled petrol on them and set them on fire. The woman has been identified as 40-year-old Hemanti Devi. Her husband’s name is Arjun Das. The police present on the spot tried to control the crowd, but people pelted stones at the police itself. Police say that the body has been taken into custody after the use of force. At present the post-mortem of the dead body is being done.
Arjun Das told that the son of Chandradev Bhuyan of the village had died a month ago. People had accused his wife of being a witch. However, efforts were made to resolve the matter in the Panchayat, but it did not work out. After that people broke down on the woman. The woman was first beaten to death with sticks and sticks. Then he was locked in the house and burnt alive after sprinkling petrol. The police have taken the body in possession and sent it to Magadha Medical College, Gaya for post-mortem. Strict action will be taken against the culprits.
