How to book a tatkal ticket on IRCTC

- After signing up, first click on ‘Plan My Journey’ page and then fill the ‘From Station’ and ‘To Station’ options.
- Now, select ‘Journey Date’ and choose ‘E-ticket’ option. After this click on Submit button and then a list of trains will open in front of you and you will be able to see the names of trains going from your destination.
- At the top of the train list, you will see the ‘Select Quota’ option. Select Tatkal here and then the list of trains in which Tatkal quota is available will appear on the website.
- Now search for the train in which you want to travel and then you will see the ticket availability. If Tatkal tickets are available then click on Book Now button.
- After this, a new window will appear in front of you in which you can fill the information of the passengers like their name, age, berth preference and other details. If you want, you can also click on ‘Consider for Auto Upgrade’. With this, your ticket can be automatically upgraded after the preparation of the train chart.

MakeMyTrip is one of the few third-party services that IRCTC has partnered with where users can book Tatkal tickets. But the user must have an IRCTC account. So make sure you signup on the website and save your User ID and Password. To book Tatkal tickets with MakeMyTrip, you need to login to your IRCTC account from the MakeMyTrip railways page (MakeMyTrip Railway Wages).
- After login through IRCTC account, select source and destination stations. Also enter the date of journey.
- After this, going to the Quota tab, select Tatkal and search for the train. Now search for the train you want to board and then click on the Book Now button.
- On the next page, you will have to provide the details of the passengers like name, age, gender etc. After that choose a payment option, make the payment and then your ticket will be booked.
