He said that if Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena sit together and discuss, then he does not think that the problem will not be solved. The Supreme Court on Monday asked Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and LG VK Saxena to discuss the names of former judges for the post. The court said that both the people sitting on the constitutional posts have to rise above the political bickering. The CJI told Delhi government’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Harish Salve, appearing for the lieutenant governor, to convey my decision to their respective clients.

CJI will look into the matter again on Thursday

A bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and Justice Manoj Mishra said it would consider the matter once again on Thursday. The bench asked the counsel for the Delhi government and the Lt Governor to inform both of them about today’s developments in the court. The bench said that both the constitutional functionaries will have to put aside their tussle and give a name for the post of DERC chairman.

The Supreme Court had on July 4 said it would study the constitutional validity of a provision of the Centre’s recent ordinance governing appointments, including that of the DERC chief. The Supreme Court also took on record the Delhi government’s statement regarding postponement of the swearing-in ceremony of Justice (retd) Umesh Kumar as DERC chief, whose appointment has become another bone of contention between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the Centre. has become an issue.
