Congress slipped to third place in Sidhu Moosewala’s village, know who the public made number one

Punjab Congress: Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was an active worker of the Congress party before his murder. The Congress party used the name of Sidhu Moosewala extensively in Punjab during the Lok Sabha elections. Interestingly, the Congress party failed to gain support even in Sidhu Moosewala’s village. In Moosa village, which comes under Bathinda seat, the Congress slipped to third place.

During the election season, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had met Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh, and Balkaur Singh had also campaigned vigorously for the Congress in Bathinda seat, but this did not seem to have any significant benefit in the election results. Let us tell you that Moosa village comes under Shardulgarh assembly seat and here Shiromani Akali Dal has benefited more than Congress.

Harsimrat Kaur has won the Bathinda seat

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) became the first choice of the residents of Musa. The SAD also won the Bathinda Lok Sabha seat and veteran leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal won the seat.

According to the results declared by the Election Commission, 2,000 out of 2,771 registered voters had cast their votes in this village. Of them, 703 voted for the Akali Dal, 604 for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and only 495 for the Congress. The BJP got just 24 votes in this seat, and gangster-turned-politician Lakha Sidhana got 84 votes.

Voting took place two days after the anniversary

Voting in Punjab took place on June 1, two days after the second death anniversary of Sidhu Moosewala. Sidhu Moosewala was murdered in broad daylight on May 29 in 2022. The village celebrated Moosewala’s death anniversary at the local gurudwara just two days before the elections. Before that, his father had held a small rally in the village to seek votes for the Congress, despite which the Congress finished third.

Moosewala had contested elections on a Congress ticket

Moosewala contested the assembly elections from Mansa assembly constituency on a Congress ticket in February 2022 but faced defeat. His father Balkaur Singh was supporting the Congress and demanding change, blaming the current government for not getting justice to his son.

Balkaur Singh’s appeal had a special effect, as many voters said that they liked the late singer a lot but the right to vote is their personal matter. Congress had fielded former MLA Mohinder Singh Sidhu for Bathinda Lok Sabha seat, while Aam Aadmi Party had fielded cabinet minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian.

Just as the voting trend for Shiromani Akali Dal was seen in the Lok Sabha seat, a similar trend was seen in the village of Moosewala. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal managed to win the election by a huge margin on this seat.
