During this, VK Saxena was shocked when he came to know that due to lack of toilets and space in Delhi, many people are forced to defecate on the banks of river Yamuna and sleep on footpaths.

Lieutenant Governor Saxena had come to visit the shelter home to see the real condition of the inmates of the night shelters. The Lt Governor visited both ISBT and Hanuman Mandir Shelter Home, night shelters and talked to the inmates and inquired about the facilities being provided to them there. Quoting the LG Governor’s Office, NDTV wrote that VK Saxena made the visit on Friday night.

Meanwhile, the night shelter dwellers told the LG that many of them are forced to sleep on the roadside and footpath as the night shelters can accommodate only 600 people. People said there are about 5,000 homeless people like him in other areas. The people told the Lt Governor that only those people who are registered there are given food in the night shelters.

Officials said people also pointed out about the acute shortage of toilets in the shelter homes. In this regard, an official said that the Lt Governor expressed deep concern over the lack of space in the shelter homes and the lack of toilets around it. However, the LG appreciated the cleanliness and adequate number of quilts/blankets for the people in the shelter homes.
