In this meeting, the syllabus of Political Science was changed to remove poet Iqbal from the syllabus. Along with this, a paper based on Gandhi was added from 4th to 7th semester.

The Academic Council of Delhi University has also approved several other proposals, including some controversial proposals such as implementing a four-year integrated teacher education program despite dissent from some members. Officials said the council approved a proposal to change several syllabus, including the removal of a chapter on Pakistan’s national poet Mohammad Iqbal, from the BA Political Science course. On which the Executive Council will take the final decision.

Six members expressed disagreement on the proposal

Six members of the Academic Council dissented against the proposal saying that no consultation was held with the teachers in this regard. Council member Mithuraj Dhusia said the Centre’s proposal is divisive. This will lead to inflammatory and communal speeches. The council meeting was held to discuss the issue of Sports and Extracurricular Activities (ECA).

A member of the Academic Council said, “A proposal was brought regarding changes in the syllabus of Political Science. As per the proposal, there was a chapter on Iqbal, which has been removed from the syllabus. Meanwhile, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has welcomed the development.

Maya John, member of the Academic Council, said, “It is unfortunate that the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) was passed despite the disagreement of the members. We will continue our fight to protect the interests of the stakeholders. Maya John was part of a group of members who dissented against the proposal. ITEP now offers B.El.Ed. program, which was introduced in 1994. Delhi University was the only university which had its own integrated four-year programme.
