Fact Check: The reporter did not ask Kangana Ranaut, ‘Which cheek did you slap?’, the viral claim is fake

Lighthouse Journalism found a video of Kangana Ranaut which is being widely shared on social media. After actress-turned-BJP MP Kangana Ranaut was slapped by CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur at the Chandigarh airport recently, a video has surfaced in which Kangana Ranaut is being taken away by security personnel amid the presence of media.

In the background, a journalist is heard asking on which cheek he was slapped. During investigation, we found that the viral video is edited.

Investigation:

We began the investigation by uploading the video to the InVid tool and getting several keyframes from it. We then ran a reverse image search on the keyframes. Through the reverse image search, we found the video uploaded on the Instagram handle ‘bollywoodshaadis’.

In the video, no reporter asked which cheek was slapped.

We also saw a PTI mic in the video, so we searched PTI’s social media handles. We found a video taken from a different angle. This video was taken at Delhi airport.

Even in this video we did not hear the viral audio of any journalist asking wrong questions.

We also found this video uploaded on the ex-handle of ANI.

There too, we did not find any audio of any journalist asking any wrong question. The only question journalists asked was ‘what happened?’

conclusion: The viral video in which a reporter is heard asking BJP MP Kangana Ranaut ‘Which cheek was slapped?’ is edited. The viral claim is fake.
