According to a report by news agency PTI, Pappu Yadav called a businessman running a furnishing business in Bihar’s Purnia district and asked him to deposit Rs 1 crore. After this, the businessman lodged a complaint against MP Pappu Yadav and his close aide Amit Yadav at the Mufassil police station.

In the complaint, the businessman alleged that Pappu Yadav had earlier made similar demands in 2021 and 2023. MP Pappu Yadav also threatened to kill the businessman if the demand was not met. According to the victim businessman, Pappu Yadav warned that he would have to deal with Pappu Yadav for the next five years to save his life.

However, Pappu Yadav has termed the allegations baseless. He wrote on Instagram, “People upset with my growing influence in the politics of the country and the growing affection of the common people have hatched a despicable conspiracy in Purnia today. This conspiracy of an officer and the opponents will be completely exposed. An impartial investigation should be conducted under the Supreme Court and whoever is guilty should be hanged.”

Pappu Yadav wins from Purnia

Pappu Yadav, who has been in politics for nearly 30 years, won as an independent from Purnia. He defeated two-time JDU MP Santosh Kushwaha by a margin of 23,847 votes. Independent candidate Pappu Yadav got over 5.67 lakh votes, while the JDU candidate got 5.43 lakh votes. Meanwhile, RJD candidate Bima Bharti (who has joined RJD from JDU and resigned from the assembly membership) came third and lost her deposit. She managed to get only 27,120 votes.

Before becoming an MP, Pappu Yadav was the president of Jan Adhikar Party, which he formally merged with Congress before the Lok Sabha general elections. However, Purnia, from where Pappu Yadav wanted to contest, went to RJD’s account. After this, Pappu Yadav decided to contest the election as an independent candidate.
