Hajipur Lok Sabha Seat: Why are Pashupati Paras and Chirag Paswan staking claim on Hajipur Lok Sabha seat?
Chirag Paswan vs Pashupati Paras: Ram Vilas Paswan formed the Lok Janshakti Party in the year 2000. He lost only the 2009 election from the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat. Nitish was with BJP in this election.
Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Both Chirag Paswan and his uncle Pashupati Paras are included in the NDA clan regarding the Lok Sabha elections 2024. However, even after the meeting with PM Narendra Modi, both are openly making statements against each other. Both the uncle and nephew are seen in a mood to fight each other for the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat. Let us tell you what is the reason, due to which both the uncle and nephew are staking claim on the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat.
Both Chirag Paswan and Pashupati Paras cite Ram Vilas Paswan as their inspiration. The Hajipur Lok Sabha seat was considered the stronghold of Ram Vilas Paswan. For this reason, both the leaders are staking their claim on this seat because whoever contests and wins from here, he will be considered as the real political heir of Ram Vilas Paswan. Hajipur is one of the six reserved Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, comprising the districts of Vaishali, Samastipur and Muzaffarpur. Apart from this, Gaya, Gopalganj, Samastipur, Sasaram and Jamui are also reserved Lok Sabha seats in Bihar.
Sasaram is the only other reserved seat in Bihar that has the same influence as Hajipur. The Sasaram Lok Sabha seat was held by former Union minister and Dalit leader Jagjivan Ram from 1952 to 1989. After him, his daughter Meera Kumar was elected MP for 2 times on this seat. Meira Kumar was the Member of Parliament from Sasaram from 2004 to 2014. She was also elected speaker of the Lok Sabha.
Ram Vilas Paswan often used to say that in the year 1977, JP had chosen to contest from the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat. Ram Vilas won from this seat with a record margin. After this he won in 1980 as well and then this series continued continuously. It is said that for a long time people used to recognize Hajipur only for two reasons – one is the bananas there and the other is Ram Vilas Paswan.
Ram Vilas lost the election only once from Hajipur
Ram Vilas Paswan formed the Lok Janshakti Party in the year 2000. He lost only the 2009 election from the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat. Nitish was with BJP in this election. NDA performed tremendously. BJP won 32 out of 40 seats in Bihar. In the year 2014, LJP joined NDA. NDA got 31 seats in this election. LJP was successful in winning 7 seats.
In the year 2019, NDA won 39 out of 40 seats in Bihar. This time LJP won all 6 seats. In this election, instead of Ram Vilas, Hajipur, his brother Pashupati Paras contested. Under the pact, BJP and Nitish Kumar sent Ram Vilas Paswan to the Rajya Sabha. In 2019, Chirag Paswan was elected MP from Jamui.
After the death of Ram Vilas Paswan in October 2020, there was a rift between the uncle and nephew. After this there was a split in the party. Pashupati Paras was made a minister in the Modi government. When Chirag touched the feet of Pashupati Paras in the NDA meeting last week, it seemed that the tension between the two uncles and nephews has reduced, but after the latest statements, it is clear that both are in a different mood regarding Hajipur. The BJP has so far kept silence on this issue.
