Himachal Pradesh Assembly Polls: Exit polls have started coming out regarding the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections. Most of the exit polls are showing a very close fight between the Congress and the BJP. BJP is likely to retain power in Himachal Pradesh. Predicting a close fight between the BJP and the main opposition Congress in the elections to the 68-member Himachal assembly, exit polls predicted that the BJP would have an edge and secure a simple majority.

Four exit polls have given the BJP seats in the range of 32-40 seats, while the Axis My India poll has given the Congress a lead of between 30-40 seats. Voting for the Himachal Assembly elections was held on November 12 and the results will be declared on December 8.

In its campaign for the Himachal elections, the BJP emphasized on its development agenda. At the same time, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur announced projects worth hundreds of crores. Exit poll results indicate that projecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the face of its campaign has proved successful for the BJP. Such hoardings have been put up on the highways in the state in which only the PM’s face would be visible, while CM Thakur’s pictures were missing from them.

After ticket distribution, the BJP’s biggest hurdle came in the form of internal rebellion. Rebel candidates of BJP contested as independents on more than 20 seats. To counter this, the party deployed senior leaders and left no stone unturned to make it a vigorous campaign. Party’s national president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the state several times. UP CM Yogi Adityanath also held more than 16 rallies in a span of 5 days.
