IND vs AUS: Despite scoring a century in the second ODI, Virender Sehwag got angry at Shubman Gill, reprimanded him citing age.
Shubman Gill played an excellent innings against Australia in the second ODI match and scored the sixth century of his ODI cricket career and this was his first century in ODI against this team. Gill scored 104 runs in 97 balls in this match and during this he hit 4 sixes and 6 fours. After this brilliant batting of Gill, former opener batsman of Team India Virender Sehwag feels that Shubman Gill could have scored a double century in Indore ODI.
Shubman Gill is creating waves with his extraordinary performance in the year 2023 and after scoring 74 runs in the first match against Australia, he proved his skills again by scoring 104 runs in the second match. In the second ODI, Gill and Shreyas Iyer scored centuries to give India a spectacular victory by 99 runs. On the basis of the batting of these two, India won the second match and under the captaincy of KL Rahul, Team India took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
It was a good opportunity for Gill to score his second double century.
In 2023, Shubman Gill has performed exceptionally well in ODIs and has scored a total of 1230 runs in 20 ODI matches which includes a double century, four centuries and five half-centuries. The feat is even more impressive as no other batsman has managed to complete 1,000 runs in the same year so far (in 2023). Sehwag, while talking to Cricbuzz about Gill, said that Gill should have made a big score like 160 or 180 in the Indore ODI. He had missed a century in the first ODI, but in this match he scored a century, but I would say again that with the kind of form he was in, he should have scored 160 or 180 runs.
Sehwag further said that he is only 25 years old (Gill’s actual age is 24 years) and even if he had scored 200 runs in this match, he would not have got tired and could have fielded. Yes, at the age of 30 it would be difficult and he would not be able to recover from fatigue, so it is better for him to make big scores at this age. Sehwag criticized Gill for the way he lost his wicket in the second ODI with 18 overs left as he felt he could have scored his second double century in the ODI.
Sehwag said that when you are in form and scoring runs, do not throw away your wicket. There were 18 overs left when he was out. If he had played 9-10 more overs, he could have completed his second double century. Rohit Sharma scored three double centuries and he had opportunities in Indore and the track here was great for batting. Let us tell you that Sehwag also scored a double century in his ODI career in Indore itself.
