IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar told Rohit Sharma underrated, said- he does not get credit for excellent captaincy like MS Dhoni

Former Indian cricket team captain and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar said that he feels that Rohit Sharma is an underrated captain in the Indian Premier League and does not get the same credit for captaincy that MS Dhoni gets. Gavaskar highlighted some of Rohit’s on-field decisions that have led Mumbai to success. Apart from this, he told how Rohit Sharma’s strategy against Lucknow resulted in the defeat of Krunal Pandya’s team in the Eliminator match.

Sunil Gavaskar lauded Mumbai Indians for believing in themselves despite their poor start to IPL 2023. Speaking to India Today, Sunil Gavaskar revealed how Rohit Sharma used Akash Madhwal to get rid of Lucknow batsmen Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran and told him how to make bowling changes.

Gavaskar said Rohit Sharma is underrated and has won five titles for Mumbai. He said that Rohit got Madhwal to bowl over the wicket to get Ayush Badoni out and then asked him to bowl round the wicket to left-handed batsman Nicholas Pooran. Gavaskar said that if Dhoni had done this instead of Rohit, then everyone would have said that he had made a wonderful strategy to get Puran out, but such things are not said about Rohit.

Gavaskar said that in the first innings against Lucknow, Rohit included Nehal Wadhera as an impact player, which was a brilliant decision and he scored 23 runs in 12 balls to take Mumbai to a score of 182. Gavaskar said that I am saying that Rohit Sharma did not get the credit for asking Madhwal to bowl round the wicket. And the way he used Nehal while batting first was also a brilliant move, so please give credit to him.
