IPL 2023: Virender Sehwag raging on Dasun Shanaka, who brought a mountain of expectations, scored only 26 runs in 3 matches
Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag has said about Dasun Shanaka’s performance that when he came into the team, we had high expectations from him, but he did not live up to even 1 per cent of the expectations.
Dasun Shanaka, who came as a replacement for Kane Williamson in the Gujarat Titans team in IPL 2023, has disappointed the franchise and his fans with his performance so far. Shanaka has just played 3 matches, in which he has scored only 26 runs. Former Indian batsman Virender Sehwag lashed out at Shanaka’s performance. Sehwag has said that this Sri Lankan player has not lived up to even 1 per cent of the expectations so far this season.
Sehwag lashed out at Shanaka
Speaking to Cricbuzz ahead of Qualifier 2, Virender Sehwag said, “I am not too worried about Dasun Shanaka’s bowling, but he has disappointed a lot with his batting. In his place, the Gujarat team could play Odion Smith and Alzarri Joseph. Shanaka’s form has been disappointing, we had high hopes from him, but he hasn’t lived up to even 1 per cent of the expectations.”
Feed Abhinav Manohar instead of Shanaka – Sehwag
Regarding Shanaka’s form, Virender Sehwag further said that Gujarat should replace Shanaka with Abhinav Manohar in the playing XI as he is a batsman who can do power hitting. Let us tell you that Dasun Shanaka was signed by Gujarat Titans for 50 lakh rupees, but this player has played innings of 9,0 and 17 runs in 3 matches so far.
Shanaka was not sold in mini auction

Just before the mini auction held in December 2022, Dasun Shanaka played an explosive inning of 56 runs in a T20 match against Team India. Due to his innings, Sri Lanka also won the match. Shanaka hit 56 runs in 22 balls in this match and completed his half-century in 20 balls. After this inning, Shanaka became the fastest player to score a fifty from Sri Lanka.
