IPL 2023: Win is necessary for Lucknow and Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad can spoil the color of four teams
Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad are out of the playoff race. Both teams still have to play 2-2 matches. Winning their matches will affect the journey of other teams.
Defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday became the first team to qualify for the playoffs in the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023). The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team became the second team to be eliminated from the playoff race. The match to be played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will be nothing less than a ‘do or die’ contest for both the teams. The playoff race remains exciting. Delhi and Hyderabad can spoil the work of 4 teams. These teams are Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
What will happen if Mumbai wins both the matches
Mumbai and Lucknow are at the third and fourth places. There is only one point difference between the two. The team that loses this match will have to rely on other results. If the Mumbai team wins both the matches, it will be in the top-2. He will have 16 points for winning one match and losing one match. After this, the team will depend on the result of other matches.
What will happen if Mumbai loses both the matches?
Losing both the matches of Mumbai will weaken the chances of reaching the playoffs. Three teams will already have 15 or more points when this happens. Mumbai Indians will be seen battling it out with four teams for the fourth spot. These 4 teams are Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders. RCB and Punjab can have 16. If this happens, the Mumbai team will not be able to reach the playoffs if they have 14 points.

What is the equation for Lucknow
Lucknow will have to win their last two matches to reach the playoffs. By winning one match and losing one match, the team can reach the playoffs without running rate. This can happen when no two of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) have more than 14 points. If both the matches are lost then the team will be out of the race.
The fate of 4 teams in the hands of Delhi and Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals are out of the playoff race. Both teams have 2-2 matches left. The victory of these two teams means that the work of the rest of the teams will be bad. Hyderabad has to play the next match on 18 May. This is a match with RCB. RCB also has 2 matches left. If the team loses even one, it will be able to reach only 14 points and these points may not be enough. They will play their last match against Gujarat Titans on 21st May. Sunrisers’ last match is to play against Mumbai Indians on 21 May. With the defeat, the condition of Rohit Sharma’s team will also worsen.
Lucknow and Chennai can get the benefit of this thing
Delhi Capitals team will play Punjab Kings on 17th May. Punjab’s loss means not having 16 points. The chances of getting a playoff ticket on 14 points will be greatly weakened. Delhi will play the last match against Chennai Super Kings. This match is very important for Chennai to reach the playoffs. If Punjab and RCB lose one match each and remain on 14-14 points, then Lucknow and Chennai will be benefited. The match between the two teams was washed out due to rain and they had to settle for 1-1 points. Now Chennai has 15 points and if Lucknow wins 1 out of 2 matches then it will get 15 points. In such a situation, both the teams will reach the playoffs.
