Government working on reforms

Referring to the suggestion to reform the collegium system, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said in the Rajya Sabha that in order to make the collegium system more comprehensive, based, transparent, accountable and fair, the government on April 13, 2015, brought the Constitution (Ninety Nine Amendment) ) Act, 2014 and the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act, 2014.

However, both the Acts were repealed after the challenge. Kiren Rijiju said that 154 proposals for appointment of judges in the High Courts received on December 16 are under process of the government. He informed that the recommendations of the High Court Collegium for 179 vacancies in the High Courts are yet to be received.
