Life imprisonment for raping minor, Ludhiana court says no parole for 25 years
Public prosecutor BD Gupta said, “The convict has been sentenced to life imprisonment under both the sections and both the sentences will run concurrently. As per the order, he will not be entitled to parole before spending 25 years in jail.”
The fast track special court in Ludhiana on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping an eight-year-old girl in 2020. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Amarjit Singh also ordered that the convict “shall remain in prison for the remainder of his natural life or until his death” and “shall not be released on parole at least until he has completed 25 effective years in prison”.
The accused, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was living in Ludhiana at the time of the incident. The FIR was registered on the complaint of the victim’s parents. He is also a native of UP. He had said in his statement that he sells vegetables on a cart near his rented room. On 1 October 2020, his 8 year old daughter went missing. While searching for her, they heard cries from the room of the accused, who lived in the same area. When they went inside, they saw that the accused was raping her and their daughter was bleeding profusely.
In the case, public prosecutor BD Gupta said 13 witnesses were examined and DNA test was also conducted for scientific investigation. He said that the court convicted the accused under Section 376-AB of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
BD Gupta also informed, “He has been sentenced to life imprisonment under both the sections and both the sentences will run concurrently. As per the order, he will not be entitled to parole before spending 25 years in jail.”
Life imprisonment for father accused of raping step daughter
A special court in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district on Tuesday convicted the stepfather accused of raping a 10-year-old daughter and sentenced him to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 80,000 on him. According to the prosecution, on May 17 this year, in a village under Farah police station area, the said person took his step-daughter on a motorcycle and took her to an isolated place and raped her. According to the prosecution, the victim’s mother lodged a case against the husband the very next day on the basis of the information provided by the daughter after reaching home.
