Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 11 parties with 91 MPs are different from NDA and ‘India’

These 11 parties have a total of 91 MPs and also have an effective presence in their respective states.

65 political parties of the country have chosen to support either the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India), but there are 11 important parties which are still not in any court.

A total of 63 members are elected to the Lok Sabha from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha. The ruling parties of these three states YSR Congress Party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) respectively are away from both the alliances. The Congress and 25 opposition parties met in Bengaluru on Tuesday to decide the name of their alliance ‘India’ (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance).

On the other hand, a meeting of BJP-led NDA was held on Tuesday itself in which 39 parties participated. Apart from YSR Congress, BRS and BJD, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is also an important party which has taken a neutral stand. The BSP has its main base in Uttar Pradesh and has a presence in several other states as well. It is a national party and has 9 members in the Lok Sabha.

BSP chief Mayawati on Wednesday said that her party will go it alone in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls as well as the assembly polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Janata Dal (SEKU), Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and Shiromani Akali Dal (MAN) are also not part of any alliance as of now.

YSR Congress and BJD have voted in support of the ruling party in Parliament on most occasions. BJD chief and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has criticized the BJP for not extending adequate support to central schemes in the state and asked party MPs to raise the issue vigorously in the monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on Thursday. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi says his party is being treated like a ‘political pariah’. His party has influence in Hyderabad and is trying to expand in some other parts of the country.
