Violent clashes broke out between two groups over a minor dispute on Saturday (May 13) evening in the old city police station area of Akola in Maharashtra. The violent mob damaged some vehicles and shops. Section 144 has been imposed in the city. Presently the situation is under control. Akola SP Sandeep Ghuge said that some vehicles were damaged by the violent mob but the situation is now under control.
Akola: One person killed, 8 injured in clash
Akola SP Sandeep Ghuge said, “Yesterday there was talk of hurting religious sentiments between two communities following which the police took action. One person has died in the clash. So far 26 people have been detained. 8 people are injured in the clash which includes 2 police personnel and other local people. The SP said that the police has deployed a huge force which includes local police force, riot control teams. Senior officers are present on the spot.
According to the information, there was fierce stone pelting from both the communities. 7-8 vehicles were set on fire. According to the police, a rumor regarding a particular religion led to the tense situation. The police had to use force to control the miscreants.
Section 144 implemented in Akola
Giving information about the matter, Akola Collector Neema Arora said that Section 144 has been imposed in the city following violent clashes between two groups. According to police officials, the violent mob vandalized some vehicles after which police used force to bring the situation under control. Sources say that a minor dispute resulted in a violent clash. After this clash, a huge crowd had gathered outside the old city police station as well.
Akola SP Sandeep Ghuge said that the situation is under control now. Section 144 has been imposed in the area on the orders of the District Collector. According to the information, this is the second violent incident in Akola in the last few days. A few days back, reports of violent clashes had also surfaced from Shankar Nagar locality of Akot File area.
