A video of two women being paraded naked on the road by a mob amid the ongoing violence in Manipur is going viral on social media. This incident is being told of May 3. According to reports, the victims belong to the Kuki-Jomi community. After the video surfaced, there has been a lot of ruckus on this shameful incident. Taking cognizance of this incident, the Supreme Court said that the video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur is really disturbing. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has asked the government to act on it.
CJI says this is absolutely unacceptable. It is absolutely wrong to use women as a tool in the field of communal strife. This is the biggest misuse of constitutional misuse. The CJI further said that we are deeply troubled by the videos that have come to the fore. If the government will not act, we will.
Government should take action – Supreme Court
The Supreme Court said that the time has come for the government to actually step up and take action. This is absolutely unacceptable in a constitutional democracy. This is very disturbing. The Supreme Court asked the Center and the Manipur government to tell it what action they have taken to bring the culprits to book.
The case will be heard next Friday
The Court observed that the visuals shown in the media show grave constitutional violation and violation of human life by using women as instruments of violence, which is against constitutional democracy. The Supreme Court ordered that the Center and the State inform the court about the steps taken. The Supreme Court has fixed the next hearing of the case on next Friday.
