This new safety feature in Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be given only in its Strong Hybrid i.e. top variant.
Maruti Suzuki has updated its SUV Grand Vitara to add a new safety feature called Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS), but this feature will be given only in its top model Strong Hybrid variant. This safety feature makes life safer especially for pedestrians.
After adding this feature, the prices of all hybrid variants of Grand Vitara have been increased by up to Rs 4,000. After the price hike, Grand Vitara Hybrid prices start at Rs 18.29 lakh and go up to Rs 19.79 lakh (both ex-showroom). But the company has not increased the prices of the mild-hybrid variant.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: How AVAS will work
Hybrid cars are as quiet as EVs when running on full electric power which can be uncomfortable for pedestrians. To address this issue, Maruti has introduced the AVAS which generates low level and low frequency sound that is heard up to five feet away from the car and can be easily heard by pedestrians and people close to the car.
The new feature is compliant with the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 173 standard, which recommends that quiet road transport vehicles (QRTVs) be equipped with some form of pedestrian warning system. According to the AIS 173 standard, ORTVs are vehicles that have at least one electric motor, or an electric motor generator which also includes all electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, fuel-cell vehicles and fuel-cell hybrid vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Specifications and Features
Powering the hybrid variant of the Grand Vitara is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, Atkinson cycle petrol engine which works in tandem with an electric motor. This hybrid powertrain produces around 114 Bhp when paired with an ECVT automatic gearbox. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency economy of the electrified powertrain is 27.97 kmpl.
Apart from AVAS, the Grand Vitara’s Strong Hybrid Edition gets safety features like six airbags, ESP, a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, hill-descent control and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.
