The granddaughter of Karnataka Congress leader TB Jayachandra has written to Rahul Gandhi, seeking a ministerial berth for her grandfather. He said in his letter, “I am sad that my grandfather did not become a minister. I want him to become a minister because he is a kind, capable and hardworking person.”

TB Jayachandra is a Congress MLA from Sira constituency in Tumkur district. The swearing-in ceremony of the full state cabinet consisting of 24 ministers was held at the Raj Bhavan on 27 May. TB Jayachandra’s name is not there in these ministers. His granddaughter Aarna Sandeep wrote a letter to Rahul Gandhi saying, ‘Dear Rahul Gandhi, I am TB Jayachandra’s granddaughter. My grandfather did not become a minister and that is why I am sad. I want him to become a minister because he is kind, capable and hardworking.
Many legislators are angry
TB Jayachandra’s supporters protested outside Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s house alleging that “grave injustice” has been done to the Kunchitiga community as they have not been given any representation.
TB Jayachandra has said that he will meet the party high command and plead for justice. Discontent among several senior legislators who were denied ministerial berths in the 34-member cabinet of the Siddaramaiah government, not just Jayachandra, erupted into protests outside the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru. Frustrated supporters of the MLAs who could not make it to the cabinet raised slogans outside the Governor’s residence where the ministers were sworn in. TB Jayachandra won the Sira assembly constituency in Tumkur district by defeating R Ugresh of JDS by 29,250 votes. Jayachandra got 86,084 votes.
