New Parliament Building Inauguration: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (May 28) inaugurated the new Parliament building with Vedic chants, but before that several MPs shared their nostalgia related to the old Parliament. Recalling one of his fondest memories of the old Parliament House, 92-year-old SP MP Shafiqur Rahman Burke shared a story.
Shafiqur Rahman Burke said, ‘I was doing wuzu (ablution before prayer) in a toilet when (Congress leader) Rahul Gandhi came inside. Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister then. Rahul Gandhi asked me if there is any designated place for Namaz in the building. When I told him that there is no designated place for Namaz in Parliament and I usually offer Namaz wherever I get a place in the gallery. He was surprised to hear this from me. During this, I sought his help so that MPs and others could get a separate place inside the building to offer prayers.
I reached Parliament for the first time in 1996: Shafiqur Rahman Barq
The Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal said, “Though the old Parliament House was built before independence, it is still very beautiful.” He recalled that before becoming an MP, I had come to the Parliament many times as an MLA from Uttar Pradesh, but the feeling of entering the Parliament of the country for the first time (in 1996) was different. I will never forget that moment or that day.
Regarding the new parliament building, SP MP Shafiqur Rahman Burke said, ‘I don’t think there was any need to build a new parliament. He said that the old one has all the facilities. We should have used that. Our economy is struggling. In such a situation, that money could have been spent on helping the poor and deprived sections of the society.
SP MP Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Burke while targeting BJP said that they made the Parliament, but did not see the condition of the country. People are not getting employment, the condition of the country is very bad. Under these circumstances, it was not possible to form a parliament. We have history. The constitution is there. This too has been made by the people of our country. Whose chairman was Dr. Ambedkar.
The SP MP said that we want our country to move forward and hatred should end. Let the atmosphere of love and love prevail, everyone works according to their religion, this is a political issue.
