Nitish Kumar wants the entire opposition to move forward under his leadership, know why JDU leaders consider themselves so capable
Another JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, “He had to lead and rekindle the hopes of the opposition to counter the might of the BJP. Nitish Kumar had made such efforts even before 2017, but then the Congress did not help him. Now things are in the right direction.”
Three years ago in 2020, when the Janata Dal (U) was at the third position after RJD and BJP after getting 43 seats in the assembly elections, CM Nitish Kumar had said that he was not willing to lead the coalition government. He had said that the BJP should make someone else the chief minister. Then in the eyes of many people, this was his political shrewdness. Nitish understood very well that he was needed in the state. He was going to become the CM of the state for the seventh time.
Big meeting of opposition parties to be held in Patna on June 12
Barely three years later, he started working to woo and bring the opposition and non-BJP parties to his side. The first major official meeting of the opposition parties is going to be held in Patna on June 12. There is a lot of difference between this Nitish Kumar and the earlier Nitish Kumar. The circumstances have also changed a lot. For some, he is now in the Mahagathbandhan camp and continues to hold his position, but for many others, it is his political acumen and some dark tricks. Nitish is well aware that much of the decline he and his party have seen since the 2010 assembly elections is not going to change.
In the last few months, Nitish has been proactive in building a non-BJP opposition platform. In a camp that has mutual tussle and pressure, Nitish has arguably succeeded in bringing a semblance of opposition unity ahead of the 2024 elections. That is, something which had not happened before the last two Lok Sabha elections.
Because of JDU it has become easier for parties like Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party to sit together at the same table with Congress, Nitish even went to Orissa Chief Minister and BJD leader Naveen Patnaik. However, Patnaik has denied being part of any opposition front.
KC Tyagi, a close aide of Nitish and JDU’s chief spokesperson, had earlier said, “Naveen Patnaik, KCR and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy are on the move. As long as they are in opposition to the BJP, we can expect that Nitish Kumar’s mega opposition unity mission 2024 is going to work.”
