Nizam’s (Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan’s) miserliness was such that when a guest came to his house and left an extinguished cigarette, then after the guest’s departure, he used to burn that piece of cigarette and drink it. He was always seen in scruffy and dirty clothes. Famous historian Ramchandra Guha also tells the stories of Nizam’s stinginess in his book ‘India After Gandhi’ and writes that there used to be more than one vehicle in Nizam’s garage, but the old one of 1918 model itself was broken- Used to drive in a broken car.
