Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has refused to take Z-plus security in Punjab and Delhi. He wrote a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs saying that he does not require security in Punjab and Delhi, but will take Z-plus security in other states.
Said, I have adequate security in Delhi and Punjab
The Aam Aadmi Party is in power in both these states. He said in the letter that he would take the facility of Z-plus security in all the rest of the states of India, but he does not need it in Delhi and Punjab. He also said that the security he gets for both the states is enough for him. Mann had recently traveled to Gujarat, Maharashtra and West Bengal.
At the same time, some sources in the Central Government said that earlier there was a sudden request from Punjab for central security cover and later they refused to take security cover in Punjab and Delhi by writing a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Bhagwant Mann expanded the cabinet
Meanwhile, the cabinet was expanded in Punjab. The Bhagwant Mann government on Wednesday (May 31, 2023) expanded its cabinet and AAP MLAs Gurmeet Singh Khudiyan and Balkar Singh took oath as new ministers in Punjab. Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit administered the oath at the Raj Bhavan. Gurmeet Singh Khudian is the MLA from Lambi seat of Muktsar. In the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, he defeated five-time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in his stronghold by a margin of 11,396 votes.
Whereas, Balkar Singh is the MLA from Kartarpur reserved seat in Jalandhar. Singh was a former police officer and after retiring from the Punjab Police, he joined the Aam Aadmi Party in 2021. This is the third cabinet expansion of the 14-month-old Mann-led government in Punjab. The Bhagwant Mann government expanded its first cabinet in July 2022, in which 5 MLAs from the party were made ministers. In January this year, senior AAP leader and MLA from Patiala Rural Dr. Balbir Singh was made a minister. He was made a minister after the resignation of Fauja Singh Sarari.
