Now an under-construction bridge collapsed in Motihari, Bihar, this is the third accident in a week

The incidents of collapse of bridges are becoming common in Bihar. With the collapse of one bridge after another, questions are being raised on the credibility of those who built them. On Saturday night, a 45 feet long bridge being constructed on the road from Amwa to Chainpur station in Ghodasahan block of Motihari district collapsed. This is the third bridge to collapse within a week. Earlier, under-construction bridges have collapsed in Araria and Siwan. This bridge was being constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.

The bridge collapsed soon after it was cast

Its total cost is Rs 1 crore 59 lakh 25 thousand 602. It collapsed at night on Saturday, shortly after its casting. However, the officer responsible for the construction of the bridge, instead of considering it as the negligence of his department, called it the handiwork of anti-social elements. The foundation stone of this bridge being built in Motihari was laid by former BJP MP Rama Devi on March 10.

Another bridge collapsed in Bihar, people are troubled due to the stoppage of traffic between two villages

Earlier, a small bridge collapsed in Siwan district. Siwan DM Mukul Kumar Gupta told the media, “This bridge was built on a canal passing through Daraunda and Maharajganj blocks which suddenly collapsed at around 5 am. No one was injured in the incident. It was a very old structure. Apparently the pillars collapsed when water was released in the canal. We are trying to ensure that the residents of the affected villages face as little inconvenience as possible until it is restored.” Daraunda Block Development Officer (BDO) Surya Pratap Singh said, “Local people claim that the bridge was built in 1991 with the contribution of the then MLA of Maharajganj, Uma Shankar Singh.”

On Tuesday, a newly constructed bridge of about 180 meters in length collapsed in Araria district. The Rural Works Department is investigating this matter. The concerned executive and junior engineers have been suspended. RJD leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav told journalists that the government and the administration are silent on the collapse of the bridges. The public will answer this in time.
