The Narendra Modi Stadium is to host the ODI World Cup final at the end of the year.
In view of this, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly, brother of former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly, believes that the stadium can learn from the rain management system of Eden Gardens, where the ground is completely covered. Is. The final of the Indian Premier League 2023 was affected by rain on both consecutive days. Rain water was seeping inside the wicket and the groundsmen struggled to dry it.
Covers to cover entire ground at Eden Gardens Stadium
Snehasish told PTI, “The delay in the match was because the edge of the wicket got wet. It is a new stadium and I am sure it will be improved in the coming times. It is not a big issue. If they had covered the entire ground, it would not have been a problem.” Eden Gardens is the only stadium in the country which has covers to cover the entire ground. He said, “It is a learning process. You learn every day. I am sure they will do it before the World Cup.
What did Snehasish say about Narendra Modi Stadium
Snehasish further said, “The Narendra Modi stadium has a sand ground and a good drainage system to drain out the water in a short time, but there will be no sand on the side wickets and if water seeps in, there will be a problem. If they get cover to cover the entire ground then this problem will be solved. it’s not a big deal. On the cost, he said, “To cover the field completely, you just need to provide additional employment to 40-50 people. About two years ago its cost was around Rs 80 lakh. If the decision is taken it will be available in just two months time. This will give them double protection.”
What did the CAB president say about the World Cup?
Snehasish further said that Eden Gardens was jointly voted the best ground of IPL 2023. He is hopeful that the stadium will get some big matches in the World Cup. He said, “I have come to know that Eden Gardens has been adjudged the joint best ground, but I am yet to get the official confirmation. I will comment only after the announcement of where the World Cup matches will be held. I don’t think this is the time to talk about it. We are looking forward to good matches in the World Cup. We have hosted some big matches in the past – 1987 final, 1996 semi-final and 2016 India-Pakistan. We have been able to do the same this time as well.”
