Naresh Patel, the chairman of Shree Khodaldham Trust, is believed to have considerable influence among the important Patidar community in Gujarat. Because of this the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party had tried to woo him to get his support.

Ahead of the Gujarat Assembly elections, Patidar leader and Chairman of Shree Khodaldham Trust Naresh Patel calls on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Saturday (October 22, 2022). This meeting is considered very important.

Gujarat BJP President CR Patil said that the meeting will help in improving the prospects of BJP in the Gujarat Assembly elections. During the meeting, Ramesh Tilara, Trustee of Khodaldham Trust was also present along with Naresh Patel. He said that it was a goodwill visit to his PM.

Tilara said the prime minister was also invited to visit the Khodaldham Trust, but he has not yet confirmed the date when he will visit.

When asked about the meeting, CR Patil told reporters, “BJP workers themselves are very strong. But if the head of an important social and religious institution like Khodaldham Trust meets the Prime Minister today, I believe that the target set by BJP workers for the upcoming elections will be met.”

Shri Khodaldham Trust, a leading socio-religious organization, manages the temple of Maa Khodiyar at Kagwad in Rajkot district. Maa Khodiyar is the patron deity of Leuva Patel community. Patel is believed to have had considerable influence among the important Patidar community in Gujarat.

Although Patel has so far kept his distance from politics, for several months there was discussion about his possible entry into politics. He had announced in June this year that he would not join any political party.

On the other hand, the Congress had also tried to woo Patel in an attempt to gain the support of the Patidar community. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had also expressed its desire to Patel to include him in the AAP. He was last seen meeting state Congress chief Jagdish Thakor, MP Shaktisinh Gohil and other party leaders during the party’s rally on September 28 at the Khodaldham temple.
