Punjab: Police heat up after student’s suicide in Lovely Professional University, Jammu connection coming to the fore in Chandigarh University video leak case

LPU Student Suicide: In the Chandigarh University case, the students have ended their dharna after the administration assured a fair investigation. The university administration has banned classes till September 24.

LPU Student Suicide: After a student committed suicide in Jalandhar’s Lovely Professional University, there was a lot of uproar on Tuesday (September 20, 2022) night. Late in the night the students started protesting. After which the Kapurthala police brought the situation under control by using force.

Kapurthala SSP Navneet Singh Bains remained in the premises of the educational institution till late night amid a ruckus after a student committed suicide at Lovely Professional University. According to the Kapurthala police, “They received information on Tuesday at around 5.30 pm that LPU had B. Agan, a first year design student, has committed suicide. We reached the spot and recovered the suicide note, in which personal reasons were mentioned. Further investigation in the matter is on.”

At the same time, Lovely Professional University issued a statement on the student’s suicide saying, “Preliminary investigation and suicide note point towards the personal issues of the deceased. The university is fully cooperating with the authorities for further investigation.”

The body was sent for post-mortem: The student who committed suicide lived in the hostel of Agan Institute. He was a resident of Kerala. Police removed the body from the room and sealed the room and sent the body for post-mortem. On Tuesday, the students got information about the incident in the premises of the educational institution when the student’s room was not opening.

After which the management reached the spot and saw that the student was found dead. As soon as other students in the hostel got the information, they started creating ruckus outside the hostel. The management had to call the police to control the students.

Investigation into the role of a person from Jammu: According to The Tribune, Chandigarh University video leak case suspect Rankaj Verma’s brother has claimed that he does not know suspect Sunny Mehta and his display picture was misused by an unknown number to share the video.

Talking to the media, she said, “We had approached the police on September 18 to trace the phone number using his display picture. It is being alleged that Rankaj used to forward objectionable videos received from Sunny to others. The police should investigate to which phone number the videos were forwarded.”

Meanwhile, police have questioned Mohit, a youth from Hoshiarpur and are ascertaining the role of a man from Jammu. The numbers of this person have been found in the seized phones. Police officials said the forensic data would be scrutinized after verification.
