The Center has recently appointed former Union Minister and former MLA from Gorakhpur Cantonment Shiv Pratap Shukla and Member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council Laxman Acharya as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim respectively. Laxman Acharya comes from Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of the Prime Minister. Acharya, a member of the Legislative Council, has been given the responsibility of serving the BJP for more than five decades by being entrusted with the responsibility of the Governor of Sikkim. Laxman, who started his career as the Acharya of the Bharatiya Shishu Mandir since 1973, related the demand for the cancellation of the Shimla Agreement. Played an important role in the movement. He was arrested for the first time at the age of just 17. He remained active in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and started a campaign for tribal upliftment.

Other governors of this Bhojpuri-speaking region of eastern Uttar Pradesh include Manoj Sinha, the lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir. He has also been a Union Minister. He has represented Ghazipur in the Parliament. Former Union Minister Kalraj Mishra, who represented the Deoria Lok Sabha seat in Parliament, is the Governor of Rajasthan. Fagu Chauhan, the governor of Meghalaya, also comes from this region.

Chauhan has represented the Ghosi seat six times in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He belongs to the Economically Backward (EBC) Nonia caste. Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brigadier (Retd) BD Mishra is a native of Bhadohi in Purvanchal. He served in the Armed Forces for more than three decades. He participated in the Indo-China War in 1962, the war with Pakistan in 1965 and the war against Pakistan in the Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
