Rain wreaks havoc in North India, schools closed in many districts of UP and Uttarakhand, 15-year record broken in Delhi

Paddy and vegetable crops standing in the fields have suffered heavy damage. Rain has disrupted normal life in many areas of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Electricity supply has been affected at many places and road traffic has also been affected. In Uttar Pradesh alone, 25 people have died in the accident caused by rain.

Holiday in schools of UP and Uttarakhand

Holiday has been declared in schools in many districts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. A warning has been issued in many districts of Bihar regarding heavy rains. According to the Indian Meteorological data, the national capital broke a 15-year record of rainfall in October. 74.3 mm of rainfall was recorded from 8.30 am on Saturday to 8.30 am on Sunday, the highest in the period since 2007. A record drop in temperature has also been recorded. The difference between the minimum and maximum temperatures was recorded at 2.6 degrees on Sunday, the lowest in 53 years (since 1969) in October. Earlier in 1998, on October 19, this difference was 3.1 degrees.

Sky will be clear in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan from Tuesday

According to the Meteorological Department, the reason for this rain in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and East Rajasthan is the activity of Western Disturbance, which is accompanied by the wind blowing from the east direction at the lower level. It is formed due to low air pressure in the upper atmosphere. The air coming from the east is largely responsible for the moisture, which causes rain. It spreads across Gujarat and eastern Rajasthan from the Arabian Sea to Uttarakhand, crossing the Delhi region. RK Jenamani, senior scientist of the Meteorological Department, said that there will be rain conditions for two-three days. The sky will start clearing from Tuesday in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will see good rains for two more days. In a few days, the rain will remain only in the hilly areas.

Tragic situation in many districts of UP

The situation in many districts including Balrampur, Shravasti, Lakhimpur, Bahraich, Sitapur and Gonda in Uttar Pradesh has become tragic due to excessive rains and floods. 400 villages in Balrampur are surrounded by flood water. The national highway has been submerged due to floods, due to which the traffic has stopped. The floods have wreaked havoc in 150 villages in Bahraich and 96 villages in Gonda district. 30 boats have been deployed for movement in the affected area. 58 villages in Gorakhpur are affected by the floods. For traffic, 22 boats have been deployed by the administration. Basti, Deoria and nearby Saryu are also growing rapidly. Two people were washed away after the boat capsized in the middle of the stream in Barhalganj. 23 people died in other accidents including house collapse including thunderbolt. In Ayodhya district, farmer Omnarayan Shukla (56) died of shock after seeing the finished paddy crop submerged in water.

Rain became a disaster for farmers

The farmers have suffered heavy losses due to the rains. The crops of paddy, bajra, maize ready to ripen in the fields in UP have been affected a lot. Potato, urad and mustard crops have been damaged. In Kanpur division, other crops including sesame, bajra fell due to water logging in the fields, while the harvested crops of mustard and maize have also been damaged. Kharif crops have been damaged due to rain in Madhya Pradesh from Thursday to Saturday. Paddy crop has been spread in the fields. The same is the case with soybeans and vegetables. The crops of moong, urad and lentil have been affected.

Farmers will get compensation in Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government has announced the help of farmers. The government has directed the insurance companies to immediately start the survey of crop loss. Affected farmers will have to inform the insurance company working in the respective district about the crop failure within 72 hours. Under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, there is a provision to compensate for the loss within 14 days.

OHE failed in Kanpur, where two dozen trains including Rajdhani stood

Due to incessant rain, the operation of trains came to a standstill due to failure of the Over Head Electric (OHE) near Kanpur Central Railway Station at 9.30 pm on Sunday night. This caused many Rajdhani as well as other express and mail trains to be parked at the Central Station’s platforms, Outer and nearby stations. Its impact has been the most on the trains of Delhi-Howrah route. The situation remained like this till 12 o’clock in the night. Many trains have been stopped at nearby railway stations.
