VEDANTA: After the shift of Rs 1.5 lakh crore project of Vedanta Group and Foxconn from Maharashtra to Gujarat, a big disclosure has come from the letter of Eknath Shinde. The Vedanta group had made two special requests to the Maharashtra government before finalizing the project at Talegaon near Pune. This included coordination with the central government and the approval of the state cabinet.

In a letter to Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal on July 26, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had said that the state government is already moving in a positive direction on both fronts on the requests made by Vedanta. In his letter, Shinde had assured Agarwal that the in-principle approval for the incentive package by a high-level committee would be approved by the state cabinet.

“Apart from the approval of the package, we are also seeking better coordination with the Government of India to ensure that the project gets better support,” Shinde wrote in the letter. However, when asked about the two requests mentioned in Shinde’s letter, a Vedanta group spokesperson declined to comment.

Vedanta-Foxconn: Shinde made a call to PM Modi and there the survey started in Gujarat

Significantly, the Maharashtra government is on the target of the opposition over the shifting of display fabrication and semiconductor units of Vedanta Group and Foxconn to Gujarat. The opposition says that the state government has lost the project worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore. It has been claimed that the stimulus package by Gujarat was much less than that of Maharashtra.

On this, Shiv Sena leader and former Industries Minister Subhash Desai has said that despite all this, the project has shifted to Gujarat, so it is definitely a political decision under pressure from the central government. Amidst the allegations of the opposition, Eknath Shinde also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone regarding the project. Shinde says PM Modi has assured to help bring other big projects in Maharashtra.
