Shahid Afridi named interim chief selector of Pakistan: Shahid Afridi-led committee will select the team for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.
Pakistan Cricket Selection Panel: Shahid Afridi has been made the interim chief selector of the Pakistan Men’s Cricket Team. His one-time teammates Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum are also part of the three-member selection committee.
At present the appointment is only for the upcoming home series against New Zealand (New Zealand tour of Pakistan). Apart from this, before the removal of the committee, the panel led by Mohammad Wasim has been entrusted with the task of reviewing the Test team announced against England. The team lost the Test series against England 3–0.

Najam Sethi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) management committee, said he hoped the new committee would take bold decisions. He said in a statement, “Shahid Afridi has been an aggressive cricketer who has always played cricket without fear. He has almost 20 years of cricketing experience and has found success in all formats. More importantly, he has always helped the youth. So in our understanding there is no one better than him to understand the challenges of modern day cricket.”

The new PCB Management Committee assumed office on Thursday. It dissolved all committees constituted under the 2019 constitution, including the selection committee, on Friday. Shahid Afridi was initially included in the management committee but left it saying that he would not be able to do justice to the job. He wants to focus on his charitable foundation. However, he did attend the first meeting of the new management committee via video link on Friday.
