Pakistan’s middle order batsman Saud Shakeel has scored a double century in the ongoing first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle. Saud Shakeel, playing the sixth Test of his career, has become the 11th batsman to score a double century for Pakistan. Shakeel remained unbeaten on 208 in the first innings of the Galle Test. Pakistan’s first innings has been reduced to 461 runs.
Shakeel overtakes Babar and Sarfaraz
By scoring a double century, Saud Shakeel has registered his name in that list, where veteran batsmen like captain Babar Azam and Sarfaraz Ahmed are not named. Captain Babar Azam, who has played 48 Tests for Pakistan, has not been able to score a double century till date. His highest score in Test is 196. At the same time, Sarfaraz has also not been able to score a single double century in his 13-year Test career.
First double century by a Pakistani against Sri Lanka
Saud Shakeel became the first Pakistani batsman to score a double century in Tests against Sri Lanka. No Pakistani player before him has been able to do this feat till date. So far, Mohammad Hafeez (196) and Younus Khan (177) had the highest scores in Tests against Sri Lanka.
Apart from this, Shakeel has also become the highest Test run-scorer against Sri Lanka. He has scored 788 runs against Sri Lanka in 11 Test innings. Till now this record was in the name of Abdullah Shafiq (720) and Javed Miandad (654).
Shakeel saved Pakistan from crisis
Saud Shakeel batted brilliantly in the Test against Sri Lanka. He played an unbeaten inning of 208 runs in 361 balls with the help of 19 fours. Shakeel worked to get Pakistan out of trouble with this innings. Pakistan had lost 5 wickets for 101 runs at one time in the first innings. After that Shakeel handled the innings. There was a 177-run partnership between Shakeel and Salman. Agha Salman contributed 83 runs.
