South 24 Parganas Heavy rainy update
On the islands of South 24 Parganas, Bakkhali, Gangasagar, Fraserganj and Mausuni, tourists are allowed by the administration to go out to sea.
Due to the low pressure in the Sundarbans coastal area, water penetrated all surrounding areas and the low pressure continuously brought rain to the sea coast. As a result of the depression and rain, a red alert was issued in several tourist centers, including in coastal areas. In South 24 Parganas, Bakkhali, Gangasagar, Fraserganj, Mausuni Island, the administration banned tourists from entering the sea.
In addition, due to heavy rainfall caused by low pressure, the river dike broke at various points along the Sundarban coast. In several places including Kultali, Gosaba, Mausuni Island’s Baliadi, the river dike has broken and salt water from the river has started to enter somewhere or in the area where the river dike is rising. The area adjacent to the Kapil Muni temple in Gangesagar is inundated with salty sea water. It has been reported that the administration has already begun repair work on the river embankment as part of war activities.
Like every year, this year too, in the month of Shravan, the Gangesagar was filled with water. But this time, in front of the Gangesagar, tourists from other states gathered at certain points in front of the Kapilmuni temple. Measures have been taken to ensure that tourists from outside the state do not go in front of the Gangesagar, with the district administration taking responsibility for ensuring the safety of all tourists. In addition, the ferry service was interrupted due to rough seas and rivers in coastal areas. Due to incessant rainfall over the past two days, the south of 24 Parganas was submerged in several places. On the third day of the week, due to the accumulation of water, ordinary people faced extreme punishment in various parts of Sonarpur, Baruipur, Canning, Gosaba, Diamond Harbour. It is known that the administration has already begun the work of spreading the water accumulated as part of the war activities.
