SRH vs LSG: Heinrich Klaasen furious over poor umpiring, calls spectators’ behavior indecent for throwing nut-bolts

Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Heinrich Klaasen was batting well against Lucknow Super Giants in the 58th match of IPL 2023, but got out after scoring 47 runs. Klaasen was none too pleased to be dismissed so close to his fifty, and after the first innings he described the umpiring as “very poor” and the behavior of the Indian crowd as “disrespectful”.

After the match, Klaasen said that the wicket changed rapidly in the middle of the match. It had spin as well as bounce and Krunal Pandya got us in trouble by getting Markram and Phillips out. It was getting difficult to play the hard length ball here. Although this wicket was not bad, but it was very slow. Actually Klaasen was throwing Avesh Khan in the 19th over of the first innings. The third ball that Avesh Khan bowled to Abdul Samad was above the waist and after that Lucknow took a review about this ball, but the third umpire called it a fair ball and after that Samad looked unhappy. At the same time, Klaasen hit a four on the fourth ball and he too was not happy with the umpire’s decision. Spectators also got involved in the matter and something was thrown at the Lucknow dugout from their side. According to reports, nuts and bolts were thrown at the dug out by the spectators.

The umpires then went to the dug-out and tried to pacify the matter, even as the police reached there. During that time, Lucknow coach Andy Flower also spoke to the field umpire. However, there was some chatter between De Kock and Klaasen on the field as well. After the matter calmed down, Klaasen came out to bat again, but he was dismissed after scoring 47 runs off 29 balls with the help of 3 sixes and 3 fours off Avesh Khan.
