Bangladesh’s left-handed opener Tamim Iqbal said goodbye to international cricket at the age of 34. He played for Bangladesh for 15 years.
Bangladesh cricket team opener batsman Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement from international cricket. The 34-year-old left-handed batsman announced his retirement through a press conference. While announcing his retirement, he could not control his emotions and was seen crying bitterly.
In the year 2007, he made his debut in international cricket for Bangladesh and in the year 2023, he played his last match for this team. He served Bangladesh cricket for 15 years and retired from international cricket at the age of 34. Tamim Iqbal scored 15,205 runs in international cricket while a total of 25 centuries were scored in three cricket formats.
Tamim played cricket for Bangladesh for 15 years
Tamim Iqbal played international cricket for Bangladesh for 15 years and made his international debut on 9 February 2007 against Zimbabwe at Harare. At the same time, he played his last match against Afghanistan on 5 July 2023. However, his retirement in this way just before the ODI World Cup 2023 is definitely a big blow for the Bangladesh team as he was a part of this team in the ODI format continuously. He was also playing for his team in Test cricket, only in T20 format he was running out of the team since 2020.
Tamim played cricket for Bangladesh for 15 years, scoring 5134 runs in 70 Test matches, in which he scored 10 centuries and his best score was 206 runs. Apart from this, he also scored 8313 runs in 241 matches in ODI cricket. He had scored 14 centuries in ODIs and his best score was 158 runs. At the same time, he also scored a century in T20 International cricket career. In this format, he scored 1758 runs in 78 matches and his best score was 103 not out. He scored 10,785 runs in 298 matches of List A cricket while he scored 7945 runs in 104 matches of first class cricket.
Batting with one hand in Asia Cup
In the 2018 Asia Cup, Tamim Iqbal batted with one hand despite a serious hand injury. Iqbal was hit by Surang Lakmal’s ball and after that he retired hurt. Although after this he returned to the field again in the 47th over, when one of his hands was not working at all, but after that he batted with one hand.
