The Hyundai Mini SUV is codenamed Ai3 and according to reports, the company is making it with a different design and engine from its existing micro SUV Casper.

Hyundai Motors is preparing to launch its new SUV in the micro SUV segment, codenamed Ai3, which has recently been spotted during testing. According to reports, the micro SUV present in the AI3 international market will not be based on the Casper. This micro SUV, codenamed AI3, will be the smallest car of the company, which will be launched soon in the domestic market of India.

New Hyundai mini SUV Dimensions and Technology

The AI3 Grand is based on the i10 Nios platform and will be slotted below the Venue. The Casper is based on a 2,000 mm wheelbase and measures 3,595 mm in length, but the new mini SUV for India will be 3,815 mm in length and 2,450 mm in wheelbase.

What could be the new Hyundai mini SUV engine options

The new mini SUV will be based on the Grand i10 Nios and Aura, hence, it is expected to share the powertrain as well. Currently, the hatchback and compact sedan are only available with the 1.2-litre Kappa naturally aspirated engine with an output of 82 bhp and 113.8Nm of torque. The sole engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.

In the international market, the Casper is available with 1-litre NA and 1-litre turbo petrol engines. Currently, the latter engine is no longer available in India but only time will tell if Hyundai has any plans to bring it back.

On the other hand, the Tata Punch is available in only one engine – 87bhp 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol with 115Nm torque. It is available with 5-speed manual or 5-step AMT gearbox.

New Hyundai mini SUV design and features

The latest spy photos reveal that the new SUV will retain Hyundai’s split headlight and H-shaped LED DRLs and round-shaped foglamps. From the front, the Hyundai mini SUV is spotted on the road with a wide all-black front grille and faux skid plate. The spy pictures also reveal that it will get muscular square shaped wheel arches.

Its cabin should be based on the Grand i10 Nios with a lot of features going to remain the same.
