Tension rises in Uttarkashi after attempt to kidnap minor, threatening posters pasted at certain shops
A few days ago, a youth along with his accomplice tried to kidnap a minor in Purola, Uttarkashi. However, the local people prevented him from doing so and handed over the accused to the police.
The atmosphere in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand remained tense after an attempt to kidnap a minor girl. Demonstrations are being held here against the incident. The protesters have termed the incident as love jihad. Meanwhile, on Monday (June 5, 2023) night in Purola, threatening posters were pasted on the shutters of shops belonging to a particular community, warning them to either vacate their shops by June 15 or face the consequences.
It was said in the poster that before the mahapanchayat to be held on June 15, vacate your shops. Police has started investigating the matter and the posters have been removed. At the same time, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that work is being done to ensure peace in the district. He further said that his government is working to address issues like love jihad and land jihad. The Chief Minister also said that anyone trying to disturb the peace and harmony of the state would face strict police action. Earlier, on June 3, incidents of making crosses with black ink on the shutters of many shops had come to the fore.

All the markets of Barkot, Naugaon, Purola and Damta were closed on the call of Yamuna Valley Hindu Awakening Organization. The organization has termed this incident as love jihad. They also took out a procession in all these towns by beating drums and raising slogans against Love Jihad. He has also submitted a memorandum to Barkot Sub-Divisional Magistrate demanding appropriate action against the accused.
Keshav Giri Maharaj, president of the Yamuna Valley Hindu Jagruti Sangathan, has also accused outside traders of trapping innocent daughters in the mountains by creating fake identities. He said that the incidents of kidnapping are increasing. The incident of Purola is the latest example of this. A similar incident took place in Naogaon market as well.” The protesters demand that hundreds of outsiders plying as scrap dealers and hawkers should be thrown out of the area.
